Extending Overbury School for the future

Overbury First School is adding a brilliant new extension that will almost double the size of its footprint and ensure that the building is fit for purpose for many years to come.   When, in the 1870s, the school was first designed by then top architect, Richard Norman Shaw, it was probably the last word in modern, spacious accommodation.  However, education for today’s 5-10 year old pupils needs much more room and the building has been bursting at the seams.   The new development will provide a hall for PE, lunches and assemblies etc (hurray - no more having to cross the increasingly dangerous main road to go to the village hall!) and there is also a fully equipped kitchen, a brilliant outside space for Reception and Year 1 children, cleverly contained within the building, extra teaching space and offices etc.

Work started in August and, fingers tightly crossed, will be completed in time for the summer term 2014.   In the meantime, there is a frantic fundraising drive to equip and furnish the new building.    Current parents are working their socks off and support is urgently sought from former pupils, local companies and anybody else who would like to support a really worthwhile project.

The exciting news at Christmas was that due to the enormous efforts of staff and parents (as well as a few substantial grants recently received) over £20,000 towards Overbury School’s development project has been raised. There is still quite a way to go to ensure that the new building is fully equipped but this is a huge achievement. project.
